The first I’d heard about this producer was at a dinner at friends place a couple of weeks ago. “You’ve got to
try this”. At first I had to wonder about the label, furry paper, yes furry, with a very eclectic edge. Anton van Kloppers and his wife purchased a small cherry orchard in the Adelaide Hills near Basket Range, and went about transforming it into a world class vineyard in early 2002. All production is absolutely minial, organic, and bio-dynamic. They are absolutely committed to the intent of minimilast intervention in the both the vineyard and winery.

“Only 25 kilometers from the sea, LMV enjoys the mild humid influences of the ocean however, at 500 meters above sea level the region is cool and grows quality Pinot Noir.
LMV currently has 10 acres of Pinot Noir planted on 4 different aspects. The row spacing is 2.4m and the inter-vine spacing is 1.5m. The vines are cane pruned and the cordon height is 50 cm, which allows the fruit to ripen evenly from the warmth of the earth.
With the recent purchase of 20 acres adjacent to the original vineyard, the estate is now 36 acres and will soon total 20 acres of planted vines. The new vineyards are being planted with Cabernet, Merlot, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Pino Grigio.
The vineyard is 100% biodynamic which means the land has never seen fertilizer, herbicides, pesticides, fungicides or any other chemical spray.”
Alcohol: 13.8%
Blokes Notes: It’s safe to say that this wine has accumulated a bit of a cult following, and it’s very hard to find, being already sold out at around $50 AUS per bottle. It’s extremely pungent on the nose with dark cherries, cinnamon and some spice, with a complexity hard to find in many Australian Pinots. It has a super structure of seamless tannin / acid integration, and the tightness leads me to believe it will cellar for quite a number of years. What I also like is the purity and soundness of the wine. The winemaker surely knows what he is doing here, as producing organic, biodynamic wines in the cool climate of the Adelaide Hills is no mean feat. Awesome length. A great wine.
Good luck finding any, but of course your first port of call would be to contact them via their website: www.lucymargauxvineyards.
