2007 Tiefenbrunner Pinot Grigio

Last night we ventured out into the big smoke of Adelaide and had dinner at a fantastic little restaurant call Auge with a few very close friends.  We rarely all get to catch up like this so we made sure we ordered some pretty nice vino.

Tiefenbrunner is situated in southern Tyrol, Italy.  This guiding principle of the Tiefenbrunner Castel Turmhof Estate Winery is both a philosophy and the basis for its viticultural practice in harmony with nature, and is reflected in both the cultivation and protection of the vines.

Alcohol: 12.5%

Blokes Notes: The iniital wack of nuttyness on the nose morphs into more of a straw / hay type aroma with floral overtones.  The nose is quite overt.  Lyche and golden syrup characters are prominent on the palate but balances well with more savoury flavours in the mid palate. It’s full and creamy but does finish quite tight and acidic.

It promises so much on intitial impact, but just lacks the follow through. Still, it’s a really approachable wine and a greate example of Pinot Grigio from this part of the world.
