Lobethal Road is a small family-owned vineyard near Mount Torrens in the Adelaide Hills, South A
ustralia. The cool climate and north-easterly facing slopes nurture low-yielding vines, producing wines of regional character and intense flavours.
Established in 1998, the vineyard covers just 5 hectares and lies at 475 metres above sea level. The low yields, minimal irrigation and hand pruning result in high quality full-flavoured fruit.
This was another Adelaide Hills SB we had heard alot about but hadn’t tried yet. We know the Adelaide Hills does great Sauvignon Blanc, but how many can be really really good. It comes down not only to the site, but also the maker.
It’s quite minerally on the nose and has a strong citrus lemon rind type character on the nose. Just below the surface though there is a hint of grassy herbaceousness.
On the palate it’s very fresh, immediately noticeable as well made, with a crisp purity that not every SB has. I also like the balance between acid and roundness on the palate. Sometimes Sauvignon Blancs from the Hills can be overly acidic and tart, but the best I think have a certain silky roundness at the core. Passionfruit and gooseberry are dominant flavours.
Good SB from the hills.
