2008 Smithbrook Yilgarn Blanc

Smithbrook are and emerging giant killer in in the Pemberton region of Western Australia and conitnue to impress with their focussed portfolio of wines, delivering savory, minerally styles of Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot.

Only a few vintages old, the Yilgarn Blanc series of wines have got better and better. Similar in style to white Bordeaux, where delicate fine Sauvingon Blanc and Semillon is fermented and matured in oak, the 2008 Yilgarn Blanc consists of a blend of 80% Sauvignon Blanc, and 20% Semillon. The Sauvignon Blanc and Semillom come from suprisingly young vines, a culmination of the viticulture and winemaking team continually planting in new areas of the property to find nirvanna like flavours and characters.

The 2008 is very good, and maybe a touch finer than some of the earlier releases. It’s rich creamy texture from the French oak, and the sharp mineral characters of the Semillon make it really appealing, and is a fantastic food wine.

Whilst not organically accredited, the Smithbrook team do abide by organic principles, so those of you who subscribe to the organic movement in your wine consumption, you can be sure this wine is for you.
