With classic peach and stone fruit flavours, fine crisp acidity and terrific balance, it is tailor-made for easy going drinking WINEMAKING NOTES This is an unoaked style of Chardonnay; the fruit was picked at night, chilled to 10, the juice separated and skins pressed. Bentonite fining and coarse earth filtering ensures a bright finish. VINTAGE NOTES 2008 was a warmer vintage with a long heat spell at the latter part of the harvest. ‘(Victoria, Australia) Appearance Light straw colour with green edges Bouquet Clean and fragrant grassy aroma with subtle tropical fruit characters Palate Typical Sauvignon Blanc varietal characters of gooseberry and grassy notes. The Semillon contributes citrus notes and a tight acid backbone. The palate shows delicacy, freshness and texture. Vintage Conditions A warm & dry growing season allowed both Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grapes to reach physiological ripeness at desired sugar levels. Winemaking Once the fruit was at optimal maturity, it was harvested in the cool of the night and gently pressed. This helps retain varietal character and freshness. Once pressed, the juice was roughly clarified and allowed to ferment in both stainless steel and older French oak casks. Fermentation temperatures were allowed to peak at 20C. These techniques improve texture and softness without sacrificing varietal expression. 20% barrel fermentation in older French oak casks. Wine Analysis Alc/Vol : 12.0% pH :3.25 TA : 5.8 g/L Cellaring This wine is made for immediate enjoyment. ‘(McLaren Vale) Lake McLaren, at Serafino Wines, is a haven for local wildlife including a thriving flock of geese. The geese are under constant attack from marauding foxes who target the goslings and eggs. The last refuge for our feathered friends is the little island in Lake McLaren thus named Goose Island. The Fruit This Fresh Sparkling displays a lifted strawberry fruit bouquet coming from the Pinot Noir and zesty lemons from the Chardonnay. The Tasting Note The palate is lively with citrus and apple flavours, creaminess from malolactic fermentation, and finishes with crisp acidity. ‘

‘(SA) Medium to full bodied, this wine exhibits dark fruit and spicy plum flavours with a sweet and lingering finish. A rich, well structured wine with balanced acidity and fine tannins and colour. Intense black raspberry characters on the palate and lively, complex spice undertones. Food Pairing: Well suited to a rack of lamb with roasted potatoes. ‘

‘(Marlborough, NZ) Bright pale straw colour with green tinge and watery hue. The nose displays grassy herbaceous top notes followed by ripe gooseberry and citrus end notes excellent varietal character. Mouthfilling flavours of ripe gooseberry, passionfruit and grassy herbaceous characters, followed by some citrus and mineral on the back palate. Clean, crisp refreshing finish with aftertaste of ripe gooseberry, passionfruit and citrus. Great value. ‘

White Wine – Vine Keeper Chardonnay 2009

‘The 2009 growing season commenced with cool spring weather &surprisingly, after average winter rainfall, very dry deeper soil profiles. While early spring growth was somewhat inhibited by cooler conditions, a warmer start to summer soon produced well balanced canopies. Red varieties showed excellent fruit set & bunch numbers. At this early stage, the 2009 vintage was looking like returning to normal after several condensed vintages. However, the unprecedented heat wave in the last ten days of January brought the whites forward in fruit ripeness & resulted in a record early start for the sparkling varieties. The maritime influence over the Currency Creek wine region leads to low average summer ripening temperatures, thereby making it a late maturing district. Fortunately, this factor meant that the later white varieties and the reds where just entering late veraison when the heat burst hit, resulting only in minimal vine stress & leaving the fruit relatively unaffected.’
