Claims of ageing wine in 30 minutes, ready to Drink - Really!

I somehow found a link to a new product on the market that claims to age wine in 30 minutes, rather than years. According to the developers, it will evolve an astringent, bitter, acidic wine into a soft, easy drinking style in less than 30 minutes. Of course I’m skeptical.

The developers say it works like this:

“Open a bottle of wine and replace it with a magnetic top. Then place the bottle on the magnetic coaster or base, which also is part of the kit.

Once this process — which includes the creation of a magnetic field and traveling wine molecules — is done, the wine is transformed. After 30 minutes, the bitterness from some of those budget bottles of wine should be gone.”

Now I’m not going to dismiss the product before ever trying it, and I’m open to new ideas and consumables, but I think it’s can be dangerous to suggest that people can purchase a cheaper, perceived lower quality bottle of wine, use “The Perfect Sommelier”, and viola, it’s tranformed into a $50 bottle of Bordeaux.

The empahsis should be on educating wine drinkers to appreciate higher quality wine, not just applying a band-aid. I would also like to know the entire chemcial process involved with 30 minute ageing.  Implying that the magnetic field moves around the molecules in the wine doesn’t tell you anything.

Like I said, I’m open to new things, but a little more candid information would not got a stray, but if these guys are making a buck or two, good on them.  As long as I don’t see it advertsied on a morning television chat show, I might even buy one just out of curiosity.
