Crush – 2009 Adelaide Hills Wine Festival

Summer is the festival time around South Australia and the 2009 Crush – Adelaide Hills Wine Festival this year should be bigger and better than ever. On Sunday 25th January, many of the hills leading wineries will be celebrating with special events, seminars, music, and food.

Complimentary wine tutorials with passionate young winemakers will reveal the secrets of crisp Sauvignon Blanc, elegant Chardonnay and cool climate Shiraz throughout the day.

One of the easiest places to start is probably the Stirling Hotel, where you taste wines from Magpie Springs, Nova Vita, The Lane, and Tomich Hill.  Then meander your way through the hills, map in hand.

A must on the day is to listen to some of the hills great young winemakers talk about their passions and winemaking philosophies.  The two guys I highly recommend are Peter Dredge of Petaluma, and Erin Klein of Ngeringa. Both are highly passionate, if a not a little eccentric, and have some fantastic ideas, especially when it comes to organic and bio-dynamic winemaking principles. You can find Peter at Lenswood Park (sessions at 12, 1, and 2pm), and Erin at the Old Woolen Mill (1,2 & 3pm).

Should be a great day out.
