Moscato Tasting – 5th Feb. 2008

2007 Two Hands Brilliant Disguise Moscato, Barossa Valley

Colour:         Very pale straw

Nose:           Sweet floral characters, quite lifted

Palate:          Upfront sweetness giving mouthfeel and roundness, delicate stone fruit characters, lychee and some floral lift, nice acid finish gives wine balance and leaves palate clean and fresh.

Price:           $18 AUD

Alcohol:       7% Alc/Vol

Variety:        100% White Frontignac

Overall:        Highly recommended summer drinking

2007  T’Gallant Premium Moscato, Mornington Peninsula

Colour:         Pale pink

Nose:           Subdued floral notes (rosehip), artificial musk

Palate:          Floral, rosehip, straw, orange blossom characters. Lacks roundness and balance – a bit hard. Acid looks added (not integrated).

Price:           $16 AUD

Alcohol:       6% Alc/Vol

Variety:        Muscat Gordo Blanco

Overall:        Spend the extra two dollars on buying the Two Hands

2006 Castello del Poggio Moscato D’Asti DOCG, Portacomaro D’Asti

Colour:         Straw

Nose:           Broad, with dusty hay and slight vinous characters

Palate:          Goes absolutely nuts in mouth with dissolved CO2 when freshly opened/poured, quite disconcerting. Sweet and round, some pleasant lychee, straw characters. Could do with a touch more acid to balance out the finish.

Price:           $13 AUD

Alcohol:       5.5% Alc/Vol

Variety:        Moscato Bianco

Overall:        Not bad for the money. Big Tip - Shake vigorously and allow some CO2 to blow off after opening / before drinking.
