Rioja – It’s still hot.
Over at the UK Wine Shop we’ve been getting a large amount of visitors searching for R
ioja, in particular the Baron de Barbon Oak-Aged Rioja 2006 . Of all the wine regions Rioja in Spain and Malbourough in New Zealand seem to continue to appeal to the senses of the mass wine consuming public. Why are the so popular. The videos below will explain.
Rioja with Denominación de Origen Calificada (D.O.C.a Qualified designation of origin), from a region named after the Rio Oja in Spain, a tributary of the Ebro. Rioja is made from grapes grown in the autonomous communities of La Rioja and Navarre and the Basque province of Álava. La Rioja is further subdivided into three zones: Rioja Alavesa, Rioja Alta and Rioja Baja. Many wines have traditionally blended fruit from all three regions though there is a slow growth in single zone wines.
The best known Riojan red grape variety is of course Tempranillo, but many wines have blends of Garnacha Tinta, Graciano, and Mazuelo. White Riojans are generally made from Malvasía and Garnacha Blanca.
To explain why Rioja is now so famous, and also many of the great wines they produce, watch these videos below:
