Top 5 Selling Reds at ChateauOnline (UK)

The following are the current Top 5 reds selling at Chateau Online. It’s interesting that all are European, and 4 are from France. For me the pick of this bunch is the 2006 Pannaroz. I love a good Spanish red, and the quality and class of these wines has improved tremendously over the last few years, with new wineries, techniques and methods being fine tuned. The Spainsh vineyards have produced fantastic fruit for centuries, but now they are combining it with modern winemaking techniques, without compromising the famous Spanish rawness.

Château de Lhoste, 2006

France - Bordeaux - Bordeaux/Bordeaux Sup. - Bordeaux AOCRed

ChateauOnline.
The 2005 was one of the bestsellers of the year, and the 2006 is looking set for same success. More fine than powerful, the wine brings together a lovely fruity maturity with an elegant structure. There’s little trace of any oaky notes in this cuvée as it beautifully expresses the grape type and terroir. We might want to lay it down for a while, although if you decant into a carafe then it’s accessible right now. A fine and delicate dish would make the perfect accompaniment.

Panarroz, 2006

Spain - Murcia - - - Jumilla DO
Red

ChateauOnline, 90/100 Robert Parker.
This remarkable wine is the perfect example of the progress that this appellation has made over the last few years. Up until now, it’s tended to offer wines which are a bit too strong and rustic, but thanks to premature harvests and better-mastered vinification techniques, this year we’ve got remarkable wines which marry finesse, balance and power. Its outstanding aromatic palate reminds us of some of the biggest cuvées from Languedoc, with its Mourvèdre, Grenache and Syrah grape blend.

It’s a real pleasure to get a Collioure on this kind of level! The terraced hills at this estate bear witness to the passion and fierce hard work of those who work the land. A wine of incredible quality, with a lovely fruity expression that’s typical of a Roussillon!
