Loreto di Vestino is a delicious silky-smooth authentic Italian red made by the great Ettore Galasso. His family winery lies spectacularly on top of a hill surrounded by its own vineyards and with a backdrop of the Apennine mountains. The family has been growing grapes for many generations but only when Ettore took over have they concentrated on winemaking too. Much investment has gone into Ettore’s new winery which was completed in 1999 - in both the vinification equipment and new barrels for ageing. They also brought in expert winemaker Loriano di Sabatino to oversee the winemaking. The 130 hectares of vineyards are precariously perched on the hillside slopes at between 150 and 400 metres. At this altitude the vines enjoy a cooler climate and a good divergence of temperature between day and night. These two factors result in a longer growing time for the grapes and more flavour in the wine. This red named after the vineyard area where the grapes were sourced is 100% Montepulciano one of Italy’s great grapes. It produces lots of ripe dark plum flavour in a wine and can be made into a style that is soft and quaffable or more weighty and best with food. Loreto di Vestino was created to be silky and irresistibly easy-going.
