1998 was extremely successful … a classic Reserva year with deliciously long-lasting wines (John Radford of Decanter) … and this gorgeous example was voted the No.1 Gran Reserva Rioja at a grand tasting held in Spain’s most famous wine region. Ruth Chavarri and her father Don Francisco make this trophy winning Reserva from a vineyard first planted by his grandfather in 1882 … and 1998 saw the ancient vines yielding tiny parcels of powerfully concentrated fruit. Two years in oak and a further six in bottle have framed the core of intensely deep spicy bramble with creamy vanilla oak.
